It took me forever to get through this one Aug 27, Miranda added it. I like it, but I don't have the patients currently to read it. I think that I could really enjoy this book in the future Visit Sweet Vernal Zephyr for my long winded reviews. Aug 31, Danelle rated it it was amazing Shelves: I've read this book before and decided to read it again, and i still feel the same way i felt before.
I love it. This book introduced me to Anais Nin, and it's style was poetic like her words. I keep me interested and made me consider what love is, what lust is. It made me consider hurt, had me thinking of my experiences in life. And like most of Eric's books made me want to visit a different country and experience different cultures. View all 3 comments. I recently just finshied this book and it was hot! All about pleasure and some pain, but it was good. I loved it and I know anyone who loves pleasure will love it to!
Dec 05, Jaszmin rated it it was ok. Honestly I really didn't like this novel. I don't think I like the writer either.
In every single one of them which I thought was kind of selfish since this book was about the woman finding herself and letting her other self come out for a while. At one point she does end up with the brothers but then she has a foursome with another girl. And then she watches the wife of one brother get screwed on her bed by the other b Honestly I really didn't like this novel.
And then she watches the wife of one brother get screwed on her bed by the other brother. It was disturbing and I didn't like that at all. She was suppose to be independent, but she just seemed so weak to me. And she didn't end up with either one of the brother's they all went back to their dysfunctional lies I meant lives.
May 19, Annalicia Taylor rated it liked it. I'm a die-hard fan of Eric Jerome Dickey, but I almost gave up on this book several times. Most parts of this book bored me so bad, with the exception of the sex scenes which were amazing. Even with the great sex scenes, if it weren't for the last few chapters this book would I'm a die-hard fan of Eric Jerome Dickey, but I almost gave up on this book several times.
Even with the great sex scenes, if it weren't for the last few chapters this book would not worth reading.
In my opinion, I think that this is the worse book by Eric Jerome Dickey. In between reading this book I had to wonder if this was Eric Jerome Dickey first book. The reading was also robotic. Very interesting book, there's a lot to digest Very interesting book, there's a lot to digest.
The poetic manner in which this journey was described was intriguing. Nia Simone is an interesting character in search of fulfillment and satisfaction. Interesting spin on an affair. I'm still thinking but this review will have to do for now. Erotic yet sophisticated Very pleased with this novel.
Sensual, poetic and entertaining.
EJD is a classy and sophisticated writer who takes advantage of the English language. Definitely a must read. Boy oh boy. Two stars for creativity in the adult scenes.
But his writing style is synonymous with a high-schooler. I found myself grimacing at the grammar. If you want a book you can thumb through just for the "good" parts, this is it.
Even the twist wasn't exciting.
Dec 07, Shadress Denise rated it it was amazing. Chilllleeee this book open my sexuality wide open!!
Apr 10, Jeida K. EJD never disappoints. This was HOT and I loved every moment, every exploit, every scene. He's a master at writing erotica that's not only sexy but incredibly unforgettable. Jan 02, Elena rated it did not like it Shelves: One woman's quest to finding pleasure and complete mostly just sexual satisfaction in life Nia meets twins, Karl and Mark, and her journey seems to be on the right path - or is it? Just generally boring They are all full of smartass comebacks and intellectual comments Gimme a break It's Jerry Springer meets Walmart trash!
The female, on the other hand, was only called "yoni" and a billion times!!! Especially when Nia joined in the violation. It all seemed like rape I just wasn't sure who was raping whom This was dirty and disturbing Not to mention that not once did anyone think of all the diseases they could be contracting having sex with 18 different strangers in one day She was being slutty wherever she went - she exchanged sexual partners like socks, she did not want a lasting relationship, she did not use protection, she knowingly slept with married men Finally, she did not grow as a person, she did not change, she accomplished nothing It all seemed to be pointless - zero resolutions to her inner turmoil.
I liked a few other books by this author, and I have a few more that I still want to read, but this one was a disaster!
It read like a bad porn screenplay Dec 07, Sheryse DuBose rated it really liked it. I have loved Eric Jerome Dickey from the first time I picked up his first novel over a decade ago. I fell in love with EJD because he really allows the reader to get to know and understand his characters.
When writing about relationships, he doesn't necessarily go for a happy ending, but a realistic one. At this point, I say to myself, "Yeah, I can see that happening. EJD always amazes me when he writes from the female point-of-view because the feelings, emotions, I have loved Eric Jerome Dickey from the first time I picked up his first novel over a decade ago.
EJD always amazes me when he writes from the female point-of-view because the feelings, emotions, and attitudes of a woman are spot-on. First, Nia was less inclined to remain in a committed relationship. Secondly, she was less than tolerant of a selfish relationship. I could truly understand how difficult it was for Nia to connect with her ex-boyfriend, Logan on a deep level. Because dude was selfish and sex is an act of giving, Logan was unable to fufil Nia.
Even when Nia needed to be free from Logan, he couldn't give that to her even after he had gotten engaged As I said, these characters are relatable. To say that Nia had sex with multiple partners is thinking one-dimensionally, in my opinion. What "Pleasure" showed me and showed Nia is that when you are intimate, it is difficult, if not impossible to separate sex from some kind of emotion lust, love, anger, betrayal when a connection is made on that deep level.
Those feelings will always get in the way, preventing that clean exit. The question now is whether or not the feelings Nia had for the married twin, Mark and the unmarried twin, Karl was actually love or just the feelings of limitless intimacy that they shared.
I love how EJD creates foreshadowing in the earlier chapters. The "Jewell of the South" is casually mentioned, but as an avid reader of this particular author's work, I just knew that she would have a significant role later in the novel. If the reader pays attention, he or she may realize that Jewell is the destructive force on each side of this relationship triangle even before she makes an appearance. Jewell is the reason Mark is unfulfilled.
Jewell is the reason Karl's love is unrequited although we don't find this out until later. Jewell is the reason the twins are unattainable for Nia, who is struggling with her feelings regarding each lover.
Needless to say, a tall glass of ice water should be within reach of the reader when reading these steamy scenes. I enjoyed the twist and the turns of the plot as well. I look forward to reading the sequel. Readers Also Enjoyed. About Eric Jerome Dickey. Eric Jerome Dickey. In , he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in engineering.
