Abdul Kalam is a source of infinite pride and inspiration for every aspiring youths and in particular , young scientists.
A really motivative book which gives us a glimpse of the two sides of a bright golden coin, one is Dr. These two sides combine together and the result was, a phenomenal personality and a true leader, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam!!

The Vicariously written autobiography didn't seem to find the light completely as the writer Arun Tiwari was involved full time in penning down the experiences of Dr. The artificial flavors were revealed at several mome "If I had seen any further, it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants" said a 12th century being which suits synonymous to the story of Avul Pakir Jainulabdin Abdul Kalam who had become a giant himself in the domains of Defense, Space Rocketry and Atomic Energy Research.
The artificial flavors were revealed at several moments because of the writing of Tiwari. However, he couldn't be blamed as did his best as he could. However, the book accounts the days he'd lived till late 90s that is upto his days in Missile Development programmes. I've to start the sequel very soon. Sarabhai; the story of a scientist tested by failures and setbacks; the story of a leader supported by a large team of brilliant and dedicated professionals.
This story will end with me, for I have no belongings in the worldly sense. I have acquired nothing, built nothing, possess nothing—no family, sons, daughters. An autobiography of one the great aerospace scientist of India. I read this book in my teens and found this to be inspiring.
View 1 comment. I wish it was little less technical This is the first Autobiography I have read. I had high expectations as I admire Sir Kalam's image. But I will be biased on the side of a layman reader in this quick review. In my opinion, one cannot write a negative review about an autobiography.
Any achievement- big or small is an achievement and only The All Knowing knows how much effort an individual puts in achieving a particular goal.
And Sir Kalam's achievements by no scale are small. But the writing style of the book is what failed to keep me hooked. This is a book about Science, Space and Missile Technology. While Sir Kalam has defined those terms where ever possible, the style in which he has described them didn't make sense to someone like me who has not first hand knowledge of the term.
And the terms that I am referring to are, after introduction, used repeatedly through out the rest of the book. I felt confused throughout the read because my concepts were not cleared from the beginning. Towards the end I kept on turning the page, reading on with a goal to finish a book that I started but I felt disconnect from the proceedings.
The emotions of despair, disappointment, and ecstasy of achievements came forth very well in the book. Gratitude expressed to all the people who played an important part in Sir Kalam's life and the history of Indian Space and Missile research came out on paper directly from Sir Kalam's heart.
He meant every word of his thanks.
I felt every emotion. The poems that inspired Sir Kalam, are truly inspiring and full of emotion. Sir Kalam is truly an eloquent poet himself. Sir Kalam's life is an inspiration for aspiring learners.
I too loved to read about his life and India's passion for space and missile independence. But I am not from the said fields and people like me, I think will feel out of place for most part of the book. I felt as if I am not the target audience for this book. Nevertheless, I would recommend others to read about Sir Kalam's life.
It is inspiring. I really wish it to be a better reading experience for others. The biography of a renowned rocket scientist. Hailing from Rameswaram island in TN, Dr Kalam had a toughening childhood, which he was immensely grateful for.
The book takes you through his life, from his early childhood through youth till his retirement. It would better be the biography of Indian rocketry, for Dr. Kalam speaks more about his rockets than about himself. With an awe-inspiring description of eminent scientists and engineers who happened to be his contemporaries and acquaintances, t The biography of a renowned rocket scientist.
With an awe-inspiring description of eminent scientists and engineers who happened to be his contemporaries and acquaintances, the book is rich in every spirit of the word.
I tried, tried and tried but I just couldn't finish this book. I gave up at the last or the second chapter from the last. I just couldn't keep going.
This book is a biography of this great personality Kalam Sir, that's why I guess it is rendered as so revered but if you look at it from literary point of view it is tedious and monotonous monotonous in the sense that all it talks about is rocket science, I mean I get it, this man's life revolves around rocketry but this book is supposed to be biog I tried, tried and tried but I just couldn't finish this book.

I myself am a student of science, I have studied and loved science since my infancy but this book didn't capture my attention. I had to push myself to keep going with the content this book provides. We are promised a biography of Kalam Sir and what we get is distant view of his life from someone else's perception and point of view.
The least or say minimal personal touch is given to his life and the author keeps rambling about specific and detailed technicalities of rocketry. I, in no probable way mean to be disrespectful towards Kalam Sir, in fact I love him but I believe that the biography of such an eminent and illustrious personality who played a pivotal role in India's missile programme should have been way better than what we are presented with.

It definitely throws a light on the life of Dr. In my personal opinion, A professional biographer would have made this biography much nicer experience for reading!! This book is a must read for every Indian to know one of the greatest men of our country. It is inspiring to know how a common man like Abdul Kalam wrote his destiny with hard work and perseverance, and with that took rocketry in India to new heights.
This autobiography doesn't only give account of his life, but also of the great minds like Vikram Sarabhai, Satish Dhawan, Brahm Prakash and many more. This autobiographical account gets a bit technical due to in-depth explanation of rocketry, miss This book is a must read for every Indian to know one of the greatest men of our country.
This autobiographical account gets a bit technical due to in-depth explanation of rocketry, missiles and other technical stuff which makes it difficult to understand and a bit dull.
However, his life and his work are inseparable and that is what reflects in this book as well. A bit difficult if one is not interested in the technicalities of rocketry but totally worth reading about India's Missile Man. An inspiration for a nation's people constantly bogged down by socio-economic issues! As motivating as it was, it was quite dragging given the technical nature of the writing and the domain of rocketry.
However it is a peek into his personal life which was solely and completely focused on his work-it practically defined him, leaving no scope for any other aspects of regular life. It portrays real humility in attributing credit where it is really due - to the person who welded parts of the machines An inspiration for a nation's people constantly bogged down by socio-economic issues! It portrays real humility in attributing credit where it is really due - to the person who welded parts of the machines and equally to the one who made scientific contributions on the incredibly humongous projects.
Although APJ does not consider himself a social charmer, his understanding of human one-ness reflects in how he manages the behemoths of both projects and people, and navigates his way trying to give technological vision and awakening to a nation. Interesting book on several levels.
First, as a biography of Kalam: Kalam maintains a spiritual base as he heads the mainly military and nationalistic projects therein. Never deals with any conflicts between his spirituality and the military nature of his work, nor the conflict of being a Muslim in a Hindu dominated country. This is a disappointment as his perspect Interesting book on several levels.
This is a disappointment as his perspective would have been very interesting to hear. The book is at its best when Kalam discusses individul motivation and project management. Was a great contrast with "Rocket Men" in that the timeline in India follwed US development by a decade, had a much smaller scope than the Apollo program, and dealt with massive resource deprivations.
I have an immense respect for APJ Kalam but somehow this book doesn't do justice to the charm and charisma of Kalam. The real gem of book lies in excerpts of poems which have been aptly compiled and written upto.
Must read for people interested in pure and research sciences,Sometime you feel how cautious kalam be it in selection of words or thoughts he wants to portray.
But you feel proud after knowing how India transformed from a nation known for its reverse engineering and borrowed technology to become a super power in Missile technology debatable??? How much hard work have been put to make this happen. Arouse a positive feeling in you thats for sure!
