It's not just a book, but a keepsake-one that you can revisit again and again. It's beautifully made too, which seems to be an Oprah book trademark. Second of all, her beliefs, sentiments, vulnerability and achievements are what we all have inside of us in some fashion.
Bottom line, we all hold the power. She in reality is not anymore special than you and me, it's the good intentions you put out into the world that elevates you to greatness.
The book reminds you of this. I strongly recommend the audio version. Her narration is perfect. The advise seems too simplistic. I did appreciate her telling about her background. She seems to realize that she is not perfect and she is "speaking " to people who have many imperfections too.
I admire her very much and know she helps people of all races and conditions. Her advice affects us all.
I was looking for a book to read at night before bed that would be a sort of non-religious devotional, and this fits the bill. So much of what she says hits home for me. The physical book itself is superb, as well. I love the woven style cover and the rough pages; it even comes with a ribbon bookmark attached to the spine.
Beautiful cover-to-cover! Audible Audiobook Verified Purchase. This book has some wonderful advice of self-acceptance, knowing you are worth and how to share your kindness to others. Her voice and timing felt as though you were talking to an old friend that was passing on their wisdom. While the end of the book I felt was a bit repetitive it really drives homes the point and you cannot control the world around you but in this moment and this time you can decide on what truly will make your heart full of love by trusting your instincts and allowing time for yourself.

At the age of six, she moved back with her mother, who had too many problems of her own to look after her well enough. Owing to this abuse, at the age of 13, Oprah ran away from home, only to get pregnant the very next year; just like her mother, Oprah hid her pregnancy from everyone; her son was born prematurely and died just a few weeks after being born.
So, how did Oprah find the strength to grow into a planetary star from being a poor and lonely family-less year-old sexually abused girl with a prematurely born and deceased son?
There is one irrefutable law of the universe: We are each responsible for our own life.
One of the things Oprah learned during her life is to be grateful for all the beautiful little joys in life. For example, for long years, she struggled with her body image and tried tons of different diets to make herself slimmer: And then, one day in , she started suffering from heart problems at night; six months later, she finally had a life-affirming epiphany: Now she is grateful for it — as well as for at least fifteen different things she lists in one column:.
We try to level the field with our family and friends by downplaying our brilliance. For years Oprah feared that people would see her as arrogant. In fact, she even thinks her weight was some sort of an apology on her part: Too many of us are willing to hide our light as adults.
So stop paying attention to them. What I know for sure is this: You are built not to shrink down to less but to blossom into more. To be more splendid. To be more extraordinary. To use every moment to fill yourself up.
The Power to Choose 3. Saying No Is Also a Choice. She was born out of wedlock, raised in harsh conditions, sexually abused for at least three years by three different people from her near family, ran away from home at 13, got pregnant at 14, her son died a few weeks after being prematurely born. Instead of looking outwardly, she learned to look inwardly.
Instead of looking for validation for her actions in someone else be that a parent or a lover , she decided to look for it in herself. You are still here, still standing. Take your good fortune and lift your life to its highest calling. Understand that the right to choose your own path is a sacred privilege.
